Program Overview

Diploma in Chemical Engineering program Launched in 2005 under the Department of Chemical Engineering, it focuses on developing skilled technical personnel to support operations in the energy, chemical, environmental, and process industries. The program emphasizes hands-on training through modern laboratories and practical sessions, providing students from Dhofar and other regions with access to career-oriented engineering education. It provides a solid foundation in essential chemical engineering principles and practical skills, covering subjects such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and basic process engineering, supported by laboratory work and practical training. Students gain experience in laboratory techniques, process operations, and the use of industry-relevant tools and equipment.

Industrial training further enhances students’ technical competencies, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, preparing them to effectively support engineering operations in real-world environments. Graduates are prepared for technical roles in oil and gas, chemical and petrochemical industries, environmental and water sectors, and industrial operations, including plant operation, maintenance, and quality control, with opportunities to pursue further studies in chemical engineering. The program is committed to continuous improvement by regularly reviewing and enhancing its curriculum, teaching methods, and assessment processes, incorporating feedback from industry and stakeholders to ensure alignment with professional and technical requirements.

Program Mission

To prepare graduates with fundamental knowledge and practical skills to support industry operations, contribute to sustainability, and pursue further education.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)
  • PEO1: Graduates are expected to establish careers as competent technical personnel in chemical and process industries, supporting engineering operations and addressing practical challenges responsibly, ethically, and safely.
  • PEO2: Graduates are expected to progress professionally through effective communication, teamwork, and continuous learning while contributing to efficient and sustainable industrial operations aligned with national development needs.
Student Outcomes (SOs)

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be able to:

  • SO1: Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and technical principles to solve broadly defined technical problems.
  • SO2: Analyze technical problems, interpret data, and use appropriate methods and tools to support practical solutions.
  • SO3: Use appropriate techniques, skills, and modern tools necessary for technical practice in the field.
  • SO4: Assist in the design, operation, testing, maintenance, and improvement of systems, processes, or components relevant to the discipline.
  • SO5: Communicate effectively in written, oral, and graphical forms, and function effectively as an individual and as a member of a team.
  • SO6: Recognize professional, ethical, safety, and societal responsibilities, and demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
