The Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering is a four-year degree program that prepares students to become innovative, ethical, and industry-ready engineers capable of solving real-world challenges in energy, environment, and manufacturing. The program combines strong scientific knowledge with hands-on learning, helping students develop the skills needed to design sustainable processes and technologies that benefit both industry and society.
Students begin with a shared foundation year alongside other engineering majors, offering flexibility before choosing their specialization. The curriculum includes courses in mathematics, physics, and chemistry, along with laboratory-based learning that builds strong analytical and experimental skills. In the later years, students take core chemical engineering courses, along with electives and specialized labs that allow them to explore advanced topics based on their interests and career goals.
The program emphasizes practical training and includes a final-year capstone project, where students apply their knowledge to address real-world engineering problems. A period of industrial training also ensures students gain exposure to professional work environments. For those who complete the first two years, a Diploma in Engineering is available as an exit option.
Graduates are well-prepared for careers in oil and gas, chemical and petrochemical industries, environmental and water treatment sectors, and research and development, or to pursue advanced studies in engineering and related fields.

Chemical engineers have diverse career opportunities in both governmental and private sectors. The oil and gas industry, including refineries and petrochemical plants, is a major employer, with companies like OQ, PDO, and ORPIC offering roles in process optimization, production, and safety. The energy sector, including renewable energy and water desalination projects, also provides opportunities in sustainable technologies and resource management. Additionally, their expertise in chemical processes, materials, and systems allows them to contribute to various fields such as pharmaceuticals, food processing, water treatment, healthcare, pulp and paper, petrochemicals, chemicals, semiconductors, microelectronics, polymers, biotechnology, and environmental health and safety. With Oman’s focus on economic diversification and sustainability, the demand for skilled chemical engineers continues to grow.

For admission to any of the undergraduate programs offered by the CE, a student must have:
• A General Education Certificate or its equivalent and
• Passed FP from DU or any other HEI recognized by MoHERI

To receive a bachelor’s degree in any of the majors in the CE, the student must satisfactorily complete the required credit hours for his/her major with an overall minimum average of 65 percent, (Except for Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering where it is 70 percent) and a cumulative average of 70 percent in the major courses.

The BS in Chemical Engineering requires 138 credit hours. The fee is 70 OMR per credit hour.

To graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, students must successfully complete 138 credits over four academic years (8 semesters). For the Diploma program, students must complete 75 credits over two academic years (4 semesters).

The medium of instruction for all programs in College of Engineering at Dhofar University is English.
